2. 较多句式变化
英文句式形态，可以整体分别一般句式和特殊句式。特殊句式中大体包括三类——省略
句、倒装句和强调句。在特殊句式中，如果出现类别叠加，就会增大句式难度，例如省
略句和倒装句同时出现。例如：
Could Achilles help us were he here now?
这句话当中既有疑问句的倒装，还有虚拟语气的倒装和省略。如果变成陈述句的完整句，
如下：
Achilles could help us if he were here now.
下面，结合GRE阅读中的一个长难句，大家可以试试识别较多句式变化的能力。
These points may seem obvious, but had Martin given them more attention,
his analysis might have constituted a more convincing rebuttal to those
critics who dismiss Douglass’s ideology as a relic of the past.
很明显，英文划线部分一个就是倒装加省略的一个虚拟语气从句，正常语序是“ Martin
had given them more attention ”.
所以，常见的虚拟语气的倒装和省略，要掌握到清晰准确的程度上，就可以对于较多句
式变化的句子解析清楚。如下三个例句供参考：
1. Achilles could help us were he here now.
= Achilles could help us if he were here now.
2. Athena would have met Hermes had she come earlier.
= If you had come earlier, you would have met him.
3. Should Thetis ask, Hephaestus would no doubt lend a hand.
= If Thetis should ask, Hephaestus would no doubt lend a hand.
