很多同学对GRE填空的备考复习都有很多疑问?应对GRE填空，应该使用什么GRE单词书?GRE单词应该怎么背?是不是背好了GRE单词做填空题就没有问题?今天，北京新东方美研项目程黛苑老师在此为大家解答这些GRE填空备考的相关问题。
首先，背好GRE单词是解答GRE填空题的基础，看下面这道题：
My grandma has a strong belief in all things ______: she insists, for example, that the house in which she lived as a child was haunted.
A. clamorous
B. invidious
C. numinous
D. empirical
E. sonorous
题目中的线索是冒号。冒号表示解释说明，所以冒号前后同义对应。冒号后面的意思是我祖母坚信小时候住的房子是闹鬼的，haunted和鬼神有关的。但是你读懂了题干，不明白选项词义也不行。
所以，这道题选C。
搞定单词只是GRE高分的必要条件，有的时候还需要运用逻辑。看下面这道题：
In protoscience times (in the ancient Greece), claims about the physical world were often accepted as true if they are reasonable; experimental verification, if thought necessary at all, was ______.
A. utilitarian
B. empirical
C. perfunctory
D. inductive
E. egregious
为了帮助大家做题，首先把每个词的中文意思给在这里。
A.实用主义的，功利主义的
B.实证主义，基于观察和实验的，不要背经验主义，因为有时需要区分正负评价，而这个词是个正面评价
C.敷衍了事的
D.归纳性的
E.臭名昭著的
解答这道题，首先要明确这里的if怎么翻译?
If在GRE中有两个意思：如果，引导条件状语从句，同义对应关系;即使，后面接形容词，引导让步转折。举例，Example: He is smart, if not ingenious.他即使不是个天才，也很聪明。让步转折的部分要取反。这里necessary是正面评价，所以后面应该取反，选负面评价的C。
下面这个题目看第二个空：
During the Harlem Renaissance, Alain Locke (i)______ the first flourishing of a self-consciously racial art movement in America and was widely credited with providing the philosophical basis for its emergence. 这里的If后面加形容词，即使，表让步转折。对controversal取反，所以选D。
佛脚词汇的优势
选的是最高频的新近考试中出现的GRE真题中的词，以下是即将出版的佛脚词：
“选”表示“六选二”，句子等价，不仅要合逻辑，句子意思还要一样，所以这两个词经常是绝对意义的同义词。此外里面标出“反”，是因为题目中有时会根据反义词选出答案。
下面这道题体现佛脚词人性化的一面：
Scientists have argued not only that the chains of atoms called ladder compounds have ______ theoretical interest but also that studies of such systems can lead to important practical applications.
A. limited
B. dubious
C. superfluous
D. unidimensional
E. intrinsic
空格要填一个形容词，这里not only A but also B，A和B应该取同。这里应该是一个正面评价：
A有局限性
B可疑的
C多余的
D选项在一般的单词书中的解释：
unidimensional: adj. 一维的;线性的
在佛脚词中的解释：
同样是负面评价的。所以这里应该选E。佛脚词都是根据考试真题语境给的意思。
再看下面这道题，只要你背过答案那个词的正确解释，就能够秒选：
He was widely regarded as a ______ man because he revealed daily his distrust of human nature and human motives.
A. disrespectful
B. cynical
C. confused
D. misinformed
E. fanatical
这道题表示他是一个怎样的人，因果对应，后面的意思是不信任人的本性和动机。一般词汇书cynical: adj. 愤世嫉俗的
而佛脚词中的解释是
The major ______ of such popular history is that it betrays no interests in making intellectual contributions to our understanding of an issue.
A. characteristic
B. shortcoming
C. dilemma
D. quandary
E. ploy
F. fault
这道题的重要线索是is，所以A和B肯定是同义。题干中的betray在一般词汇书中的解释: v. 背叛;出卖
而在佛脚词中的解释是
所以is后面的意思是负面评价，找同义词，
C、D困境，表示没法做到
B、F缺点，表示没做好
选B和F。
The concept of the Hellenistic period in ancient history has proved useful but also ______ with scholars disagreeing on the dates when the period began and ended.
A. slippery
B. elusive
C. fruitless
D. deceptive
E. futile
F. compelling
题干中空格处应该是一个表示概念特征的形容词，with后的意思是“学者对于这个时期从什么时候开始和结束意见是不一致的”，可以看出此处应该是一个负面评价的词，所以应该选出两个负面评价的同义词。
下面看佛脚词中elusive的解释，第二个意思的“选”中有slippery，表示难以捕捉的。
此外，C和E也是同义词，无用的。但是but前面有个useful，前后应该转折，但不能直接矛盾，所以不能说“不仅有用，而且无用”，这里应该选A和B。
While it is always clear that the author’s message is heartfelt, it is mostly buried by shortcomings of style, organization and production, although the book does become more ______ toward the end.
A. sincere
B. intelligible
C. orthodox
D. readable
E. frank
F. voluble
这道题有些难。Although表示让步转折，题干的意思是这本书在结尾的时候变得更加____。转折的部分是这本书被书所埋没了，所以让步的地方应该是取反。选项中A和E是一对同义词，表真诚的;B和D是一对同义词，表可以理解的。应该选哪组需要看题干while的部分并结合后面的“become”，变成，也就是become后的状态应该和开始有所不同，所以不能是真诚的，这里选B和D。
For parents, the pleasure of letting children choose which book to read aloud together is not always ______ : I well remembered my inner groans when my child would constantly pick my least favorite book from the shelf.
A. intangible
B. enduring
C. impalpable
D. unalloyed
E. ephemeral
F. unqualified
这道题也很难。首先分析题目，快乐并不总是____:我记得当我的孩子挑书的时候总是挑我最不喜欢的书时我内心的呻吟。冒号解释说明，冒号后面是让我感到不爽的事情，所以空格内应该是负面的。那么根据选项的意思可以进行选择，以下是佛脚词中的一些解释：
A和C是一组同义词，B和E是一组反义词，D和F是一组反义词。
Qualified 合格，限制
unlloyed 纯粹的
答案为D和F
有些词在GRE考试中不止一个意思会被考到，佛脚词也专门给这种词多种解释。请看这个例题：
The film was a ______: its elements were assembled more or less haphazardly from a dozen of different sources.
A. burlesque
B. satire
C. pastiche
D. chronicle
E. parody
这个电影的特征_________：一些不同来源的元素随机组合。
一般词典中pastiche的意思: n. 混成曲;模仿画
因此，本题选C。而在其他的GRE题目中，pastiche也有模仿作品的意思。
