　　解析： 注意前半句这个结构的正常语序应该是Created to serve their workaday as perfectly as possible。这句话有一个now，就说明前面喝后面应该是不一样的，他创造的时候的目的和现在的目的不一致，所以之前是他们日常的___，现在因为他们的美，所以搭配后选择C选项。

　　workaday这个单词表示日常的，跟quotidian曾经考过6选2。

　　答案：C

　　2. In order to ________ her theory that the reactions are ________ , the scientist conducted many experiments, all of which showed that the heat of the first reaction is more than twice that of the second.

　　(A) support.. different

　　(B) comprehend.. constant

　　(C) evaluate.. concentrated

　　解析： 前后两句是因果关系，他做了很多试验(conduct experiments) ，这些试验都证明第一个反应比第二个反应放出的热多。因此这两个反应(reactions)应该是怎么样的呢?你发现只能证明A选项，这两个反应是不同的呗，放出的热量不一样。

　　答案：A

　　解析：前面有两个并不是特别熟悉的词

　　sheer - used to emphasize the size, degree or amount of something.

　　bulk - the mass or size of something large

　　总值这两个词放在一次就体现出前面的数据很多，有些overpower(难以承受)我们，因此我们要依赖于怎样的叙述去阅读那些新闻呢?就应该选择一次体现的是一种短，所以选择C。

　　注意insular这个单词要跟cosmopolitan记成反义词。

　　synoptic的同义词有很多，我们一起来总结一下：

　　synoptic = abridgment, compendium, abstract, summary

　　答案：C

　　(A) longing for.. regret

　　(B) awe of.. inhibition

　　(C) curiosity about.. rancor

　　解析：前后两句没有明显转折，因此表示同一个意思。第一个说他缺乏对死亡的一个东西，第二个是他说死亡的时候没有什么，所以我们应该知道，这两个词应该是同义词。匹配后同方向的词，就只有B选项合适了。缺乏对死亡的敬畏，谈论死亡的时候口无遮拦(speak without inhibition) 。

　　注意D选项eloquence表示能言善辩，loqu这个词根表示的是to speak。看看这几个词你认不认识： loquacious, grandiloquent , colloquial, soliloquy

　　练习：用loquacious, grandiloquent, colloquial, soliloquy 填空。

　　I can use the tools every other writer uses, the _______ metaphors, the descriptions, but I don't think I'd be doing the reader any favors.

　　解析： 注意这里面出现了as......as.....结构，这里面把他们physiologically distinct 和他们psychologically distinct的区别进行比较，意思是他们在生理上和心理上一样有区别，所以前面就应该填一个词体现出他们混淆在一起，因此选择E选项，表示过度的，只有这个词体现出了他们无法distinct。

　　很多同学容易错选A选项，同时的状态跟他们是否distinct没有关系，同时发生并不代表两个东西有任何关系。

　　答案：E

　　6. It is ironic that a critic of such overwhelming vanity now suffers from a measure of the oblivion to which he was forever ________ others, in the end, all his ________ has only worked against him

　　(A) dedicating.. self-procession

　　(B) leading.. self-righteousness

　　(C) consigning.. self-adulation

　　(D) relegating.. self-sacrifice

　　(E) condemning.. self-analysis

　　解析：注意这道题目有个ironic所以应该体现出一种矛盾感。一个很自负的评论员，却遭受了一种oblivion，第二个空格就应该填入一个单词体现出vanity，所以只有B和C这两个选项合适。而leading这个单词解释不通，所以我们选择C选项。consign others to oblivion表示什么意思呢?consign的意思为：to put somebody/something in an unpleasant situation。就是它总是去遗忘别人，现在别人也忘了他。

　　这里面最不好理解的是：a critic of such overwhelming vanity now suffers from a measure of the oblivion to which he was forever ________ others

　　这句话的结构是这样的住局势a critic suffer from a measure of oblivion. 什么样的critic 呢，是(of such overwhelming vanity) 的critic，什么样的oblivion呢，是he was forever consigning others to the oblivion。

　　注意D选项relegate 和delegate区分开。relegate 表示 降级，delegate 表示授权

　　答案：C

　　largesse - Generosity in bestowing money or gifts upon others:

　　perquisite - A benefit which one enjoys or is entitled to on account of one’s job or position:

　　注意prerogative 表示特权的意思，要跟pejorative (轻蔑的话语)区分开!
